We headed up to Six Flags Magic Mountain the other day to take a look at the all new white train on The New Revolution and to take a look around the park at what's maybe coming for 2017.
We'll be back at the park on Thursday so we'll have more from The New Revolution then but for now let's take a look at the new train and some nice night shots from friend of the site Cody. But the bulk of today's update is going to be looking at the potential for 2017 and a nice video we put together discussing some things about that project. Not really "what" the project us (as we don't know) but the potential and what that might mean for the rest of the backside of the park.

Before we get started, don't forget to get your tickets for Mountain Madness 2.0. We've got a great day planned for you and you definitely don't want to miss it. Click the picture below for all of the details.
The nice and shiny white train
If possible it was actually a bit smoother than the red train. So good to have this back. Took a nice front seat ride today without the VR.
And despite rumors, we did confirm with the park there will not be a 3rd train. Just the Red and White. Too bad as a a Blue train would have filled out the connection quite nicely.
How about a few night shots from our good friend Cody who was at the park last night.
And lastly, a couple of gif files we created from video Cody sent us. Love the classic amusement park feel this gives off.
Alright, enough of The New Revolution for now. We'll have more of that later in the week.
Our main update this week is looking at the 2017 project area and some speculation on not really the "what" is coming but what that means to the surrounding area.
We'll start back at the Action Theater which has been completely removed.
Lots of room here for "something" whether it's a Justice League dark ride or some other type of ride.
Fences all around the area. Once they start building something it's going to be pretty obvious what's coming.
Tidal Wave is closed, whatever is coming we have a feeling it's going to be DC themed. Let's hope this ride stays with a nice Aquaman re-theme.
Elsewhere in the park, Grad Nights are coming.
"It's peanut butter jelly time!"
Season Pass previews for The New Revolution end on April 17. The ride will be closed April 18-20 and reopen on April 21 with the ribbon cutting at 11am.
Total accidental almost awesome coaster shot. Didn't even notice the train coming down the first drop until I got home. =)
Lastly, new slide pieces continue to show up on site. These are replacing the kid friendly slides at the front of the park on "Reptile Ridge". Not sure if it's also replacing the speed slides that are there as well, let's hope the middle slide is staying. That's the best body slide in the park.
Alright, that's going to wrap it up for this update.
Be sure to check out the video above and let us know what you think about our 2017 project speculation and if you think we're crazy or are making maybe a little bit of sense. We'll be back up at the park on Thursday for the grand opening of The New Revolution and then on Friday we'll be at Discovery Kingdom for a tour of The Joker. Obviously, the first thing one must do is download the app and figure out where in the plethora of other apps you are going to put it. Luckily I have a folder dedicated to Theme Park apps. Yep, I'm a dork. =) (Click on any of the pictures below to see a larger version) A new app has been released by Six Flags that has some pretty great capabilities so of course we took some time today to play around with it, gathered some screen shots and we'll review it for you below. If you'd like to download it you can do so from the Android or Apple store. Written by Gregg Condon Once you download the app you can either enter in your pass number or scan it. I had no problem scanning my pass and it came right up. Perks and Conditions and where the pass is valid at. Your home park is also featured at the top by default. You can also access your Rewards and Coupons to see what's already on your pass. Bonus!!! If you are visiting another park you can click the "Park Selection" and see hours, events and rides at any of the Six Flags parks. Parks are listed alphabetically (by state) and are easy to navigate through them. La Ronde and Six Flags Mexico are also included. Once you've selected your park the hours will display as well as options for buying tickets and a list of rides in alphabetical order. You can also filter the rides by Thrill Level and Height Requirement. Any special events are listed such as Season Pass ERT events and other events like the Coaster Challenge at Six Flags Great America. Most of the parks events looked like this, easy to see what they are, the dates and whether you want to take the chance of a park full of cheerleaders. =) So that's about it for our review of the new app. Overall we think the App is a great improvement over any of the 3rd party apps out there. The ability to have your pass in your phone alleviates the need for an "oh crap" pass since most of us grab our phones before anything else prior to leaving the house. Obviously the one thing missing from the app ... ride wait times. This is probably the #1 ask for all of these apps and probably the hardest thing for most parks to implement. Hopefully an easy solution will come one of these days. Maybe scanning your phone at the entrance and exit while using the app? Of course, most people won't remember to do the 2nd scan. Have you downloaded the app yet? Let us know what you think. And Apple users, let us know if there are any differences on that app. We're interested to know. Welcome to the first of which will be many Twisted Colossus updates over the next (hopefully) 9 months. Probably too many. =) We'll take a look at the work that has been done so far, speculate on a couple of things for the "Back Alley" portion of the site and share a couple of quick thoughts and pictures elsewhere between the two parks. Twisted ColossusWe'll start off our update with the biggest news to come to the park since ... well, Full Throttle two years ago. But this looks to be a nice well rounded coaster and continuing the trend of making the surrounding area better along with the new ride (think DC Universe and the Full Throttle Zone). If a new major coaster every two years is what it takes to get the park looking great then so be it. First a couple of Colossus pictures from Hurricane Harbor Since we're not planning on going back to Hurricane Harbor this season (more on that below) we probably won't get to see this angle of the ride until next May. Heading into Magic Mountain, some work has been done on the right side of the station. We still have no clue which station is going to be used for Twisted Colossus but seeing that the bridge is still there and the food/store location at the exit would fit better on this side, it would make sense if it was this side. The sign is still there Doesn't look like anything has been done on this side, but I'd guess the ride controls have been removed. They were definitely doing work on the lift today From the parking lot you can see that the removal of excess wood is already taking place Moving back in, we'll take a look at the space where the "Back Alley" will be. The bathrooms have been closed for which will hopefully be a much needed refurbishment. Expect the old Colossus Cookery/Ben and Jerry's to be a food location again next year. I'd personally love it if they renamed it Twisted Colossus Cookery. This big empty space is ripe for an exit store. Lots of open space is available for whatever outdoor entertainment they have planned. Hopefully the re-do will extend all the way to Scream and Scream Plaza (and the Scream queue). I know most people would like this to extend to the area underneath Scream, but honestly, a refurbishment of the queue, plaza and a paint job would be great. I'm guessing these banners have been hanging here for 11 years and really need to be replaced. A new name that would fit the Colossus Steampunk theme would be nice as well. Unlike Full Throttle, hopefully they'll still keep some of the natural shade in the area and not turn this into a DJ booth or something. I'd expect the Cool Zone to remain, but maybe the misters will be back so it would actually be "Cool" again. Around The ParksJust a couple of quick notes from around both parks. Our day started off at Hurricane Harbor and if you follow us on Facebook and Twitter you'll know that it wasn't a very pleasant experience getting inside the park. In fact, it's been like this pretty much all summer. There simply isn't enough organization in the front area to handle the amount of people who crowd the entry plaza every day. Add to the fact that the Gold Pass lines aren't clearly defined and you have a very unpleasant start to the day. This is what the entry looked like at about 10:15. This is supposed to be the Gold Line entry but probably 60% of these people are just regular guests. I don't blame the guests (for the most part), most don't know where to go. I don't expect the park to address this in the next few weeks since Hurricane Harbor will be closing for the season, but we'd REALLY like to see a solid entry plan prior to opening day next May. It really wouldn't be too hard. Normally we aren't in favor of removing trees and plants, but removing the big planter in the middle of the plaza really would help in this case. When you have so many people trying to get inside both parks and the remaining trying to get their passes processed, some permanent queue area's would be a good thing. Somebody in upper management really should come out and observe this one morning. Inside Hurricane Harbor, unfortunately some of the great work they did in the lazy river is starting to wear out. Hopefully they'll address this in the offseason. The Season Pass dining plan is back, it really is a great deal if you eat in the park on a regular basis. Speaking of eating in the park, the waterfront food area recently got a nice new paint job and a new healthy eating place. It didn't appear to be open however. People ask for healthy choices in pretty much every survey, but they won't last if people don't actually use them. Fright Fest is coming in just a few short weeks Not really a whole lot of work being done in publicly accessible area's yet, but now that the park is closed during the week we anticipate the decorations going up rather quickly. Willoughby's Garden of Darkness Facade for Willoughby's isn't up yet This is the location for Fright Feast, we totally recommend this when doing Fright Fest. Lastly, assuming this will get replaced eventually although maybe they should move it into the queue as a little tribute to the original ride. That's going to wrap it up for this update. We'll be back at the park in a couple of weeks for another update on Twisted Colossus and probably a bunch of Fright Fest stuff. |
